We had such great fun last Thursday at JJs in Eden Prairie co-hosting a night of music with our good friends, The Sapphire Experiment. We’re hoping to take our pop/mainstream set on the road a bit more if possible, so we’re starting to search for places in the Twin Cities area where our music might be a good fit. Thoughts from today's LEMA service

Today Teresa and I sang at a LEMA (Law Enforcement Memorial Association) service, which honored fallen officers with music, stories, and by listening to their 200+ names read aloud. It was incredibly moving to see so many service people in uniform, paying respects and supporting families who lost loved ones.

I have an enormous amount of appreciation for people who go to work every day and put themselves in danger to protect others. I lost my cousin Shawn Silvera (www.shawnsilvera.org) in the line of duty several years ago, and the outpouring of support from the police departments and local communities was nothing short of amazing. All of you who serve in that kind of capacity - THANK YOU so much!

Our music went well - we sang At The Cross and Without You + Yearn medley for prelude, then Who Am I a little later in the service. Aimee took some audio/video which I’ll parse through soon and post some clips of.

Last night we got to do a pop/mainstream set for a local organization’s volunteer appreciation dinner, and it was a blast. We got some good feedback, and it’s awesome to diversify our music offerings a little bit so maybe we can get more exposure. Here are the songs we performed:

New gig coming up!:

A Minneapolis-based organization is having their yearly volunteer appreciation dinner next month, and we’ve been asked to provide about an hour of music ahead of time. The twist is that they want an all mainstream/pop set of music - and we couldn’t be more excited! We’ve been looking for a good excuse to work up a set like this. We have ones we’ve worked on in the past, but would love to hear if you have some ideas - stop by our FB page and let us know!

This song is called Move, and is pretty much my first effort at songwriting. This was written in a time when my wife and I were adopting our second child, and I was throwing an emotional/spiritual temper tantrum at God about prayers not being answered my way.

At that time I heard a great sermon about how God certainly hears us out and feels our pain during those tough times, but our cries and anger don’t upset Him or get Him to change his mind. At some point, we are the ones that need to decide to pick up and press forward with faith.

The tune is just verse 1 and chorus right now, but v2 and bridge are in the works.

Thanksgiving luncheon set at The Base

This is our performance of With or Without You from the semi-finals round of the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest. This round took place at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell on Saturday, September 3 at 6 p.m. We ended up winning our division that night and getting to sing at the finals the next night. We didn’t place, but were real happy with the performance and blessed by God to have the opportunity!

Well, we didn’t place in Sunday night’s talent show finals, but were real happy with our performance. They told us an estimated 8,000 people were in attendance, and it was just an honor to make it that far and a real blessing to have the opportunity to sing for so many people. Plus, we made some connections afterwards with people who may want us to come and sing for their groups/churches, so we’re excited about that. Thanks to God and all the friends/family who supported us through all this!

Pardon the late update, but we did it! We won our division of the talent show last night, and move onto the finals TONIGHT! We feel so blessed. The song went as well as it ever has, even during rehearsals, and that’s all we really wanted - to do a performance we were both happy with. But to go onto the finals now is just icing on the cake. Thank you God for this fun opportunity, and please keep us in good health and help us do our best tonight. Amen! P.S. we’ll get pics/vids posted in the next day or so.

Well, in about 24 hours our semi-final round at the state fair will be complete. Please keep an eye on our Twitter feed and blog for more updates. Saturday's the big night!

Well, after what seems like a lifetime, our big moment has finally come. Saturday evening at 6pm we’ll be singing at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell at the fair for the talent show semi-final round. “Nervous” doesn’t really describe it for me, especially since we have so many family/friends coming this time. Still, we’re very excited and blessed to have the opportunity. I’m sure we’ll get an audio/video recording of it, but if you’re reading this, come see us in person!
