This song is called Move, and is pretty much my first effort at songwriting. This was written in a time when my wife and I were adopting our second child, and I was throwing an emotional/spiritual temper tantrum at God about prayers not being answered my way.

At that time I heard a great sermon about how God certainly hears us out and feels our pain during those tough times, but our cries and anger don’t upset Him or get Him to change his mind. At some point, we are the ones that need to decide to pick up and press forward with faith.

The tune is just verse 1 and chorus right now, but v2 and bridge are in the works.

Thanksgiving luncheon set at The Base

This is our performance of With or Without You from the semi-finals round of the Minnesota State Fair Amateur Talent Contest. This round took place at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell on Saturday, September 3 at 6 p.m. We ended up winning our division that night and getting to sing at the finals the next night. We didn’t place, but were real happy with the performance and blessed by God to have the opportunity!

Well, we didn’t place in Sunday night’s talent show finals, but were real happy with our performance. They told us an estimated 8,000 people were in attendance, and it was just an honor to make it that far and a real blessing to have the opportunity to sing for so many people. Plus, we made some connections afterwards with people who may want us to come and sing for their groups/churches, so we’re excited about that. Thanks to God and all the friends/family who supported us through all this!

Pardon the late update, but we did it! We won our division of the talent show last night, and move onto the finals TONIGHT! We feel so blessed. The song went as well as it ever has, even during rehearsals, and that’s all we really wanted - to do a performance we were both happy with. But to go onto the finals now is just icing on the cake. Thank you God for this fun opportunity, and please keep us in good health and help us do our best tonight. Amen! P.S. we’ll get pics/vids posted in the next day or so.

Well, in about 24 hours our semi-final round at the state fair will be complete. Please keep an eye on our Twitter feed and blog for more updates. We’ll try to get both audio and video recorded of the performance, for better or worse. And if for worse, I’ll probably tell everyone we DIDN’T tape it :-)

Saturday's the big night!

Well, after what seems like a lifetime, our big moment has finally come. Saturday evening at 6pm we’ll be singing at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell at the fair for the talent show semi-final round. “Nervous” doesn’t really describe it for me, especially since we have so many family/friends coming this time. Still, we’re very excited and blessed to have the opportunity. I’m sure we’ll get an audio/video recording of it, but if you’re reading this, come see us in person!

Teresa and I sweated our way (literally and figuratively) through the state fair auditions last night. It was 1 trillion degrees outside, with a billion percent humidity, so it was a toasty one. But our voices/hands kept from melting and we were pretty happy with our performance.

From here, they have auditions all through this week, with the last day being Sunday night. Then early next week they will send out notifications for who makes it to the semifinals. They send the news via snail mail, so waiting will be painful!

If we make it, we’ll compete in the semi-finals one evening during the fair run. And if we make it beyond THAT, we’ll accomplish our goal of playing the grandstand. And that would be totally sweet!

Will post an update as soon as we know more.

State Fair auditions: T-5 days

Teresa and I are auditioning for the Minnesota State Fair talent contest next week. We thought it would be a fun to put ourselves in a situation that’s so nerve-racking we’ll want to puke. I’m not sure what the audio/video recording setup will be like, but for better or worse, I’ll try to get some footage of it recorded in one form or another, and get it posted here afterwards.

We’re excited to be playing for a Christian open mic night this Saturday in Crystal! You can find out more information here (http://goo.gl/04DNn), but the show starts at 7 p.m. and it’s $5 for youth and $7 for adults. We don’t know a whole lot more about the event at this point, except that it’s family friendly, and artists have 10 minutes to share their ministry. We’re really pumped! I realize this is on a Saturday (and it’s Father’s Day weekend - yikes - better get something for my pops!), but please, if you’re in the area, come on out and experience it for the first time with us!

Teresa and I sang the wonderful Mark Schultz tune, Remember Me, for my son’s baptism. It’s funny because we saw Mark Schultz live in concert the night before, and he closed with this song. So awesome to see it that night and then sing it the next morning!
